The alpilles

The low Alpilles massif is characterized by the peculiarity of its limestone white rocks. Covering an area of 50,000 hectares and spanning sixteen municipalities, between Tarascon and Orgon, these small mountains are the ideal place for climbing enthusiasts. Its name derives from the Provencal "Aupiho" - "The Alps", the Alpilles are therefore a chain that could be compared to small Alps. Another peculiarity of this massif, it is traversed by numerous small streams, "gaudres", rivers often dry in the summer and at low rate the rest of the year.
